Got Mojo?

This week I got the chance to see one of my favorite bands at my favorite venue.  The Bill Mattocks Band was in the house at the Oxford Saloon.  As always, everyone was up for a night of dancing and from the announcement of the sound check, someone asked, "Can we dance?"  And they did.

Susan, Nina, Dave

Opening with Bad Luck Blues written by guitarman Billy Appleton, the night started off with a funky bluesy note.  He's written two other songs for the band, "Don't Touch My Girl" and "Don't Call Me Tonight", which was my favorite of the three and filled the dance floor with couples.   The band's song roster also includes another original, "Under a Million" by bassman Dave Bishop.

As always it's hard to not dance, but I forced myself to take a few breaks to tell you how much fun I had with friends and listening to music that just makes you smile.  Upbeat, high energy blues and rock.  Along with Billy Appleton and Dave Bishop, the group includes leader Bill Mattocks on harp, Greg Rowe on drums and Jeff Swanson on keyboard.

Bill sang an Eric Clapton ballad and the dance floor filled with couples instantly.  I've never seen so many men jump up to dance a slow one ever.  Great job Bill!  "The Letter" is always a favorite with Ted & I singing "back up" out on the dance floor.  Jeff Swanson's fabulous on keys making it a fun one to dance to.  Greg Rowe's drum solo was right on with Steely Dan's "Josie".  With the addition of originals The Bill Mattocks Band has taken it to the next level and grown from the departure of their trumpet player Ron Hendee.  This fan never had a doubt and I wasn't disappointed.  These guys are great together!

By the way, the Oxford has great pies by the Snohomish Pie Co....try the Apple Berry with whipped cream!
